Dr. Ron Roncone
The Systems Mastermind Behind Stress-Free, Scalable Orthodontics
Dr. Ron Roncone has been redefining orthodontic excellence since 1973, with a career spanning clinical innovation, business strategy, and thousands of successfully treated adult and TMD cases. He is the creator of the widely adopted Roncone PhysioDynamicSystem (PDS)—a streamlined approach to orthodontics focused on efficiency, biomechanics, and simplicity.
A graduate of Marquette University, Dr. Roncone completed his orthodontic training at Harvard School of Dental Medicine and the Forsyth Dental Center. He is a sought-after global lecturer and consultant, known for helping practices cut down appointments, reduce stress, and run smarter—not harder. At OP Summit 2025, he’ll share decades of tested systems that transform chaos into clarity—and burnout into growth.
Q: Dr. Roncone, you’ve seen the industry evolve for decades. What’s the biggest shift that orthodontists need to make today?
A: The biggest shift is simple: stop overcomplicating your practice. Most orthodontists are drowning in inefficiencies—inefficient systems, inefficient appointments, inefficient thinking. What I teach is how to simplify your workflows in a way that improves results and reduces stress. Fewer appointments, fewer emergencies, fewer problems.
When you implement systems that actually work—whether clinical or business—you get consistency, scalability, and peace of mind. That’s what this session is about.
Q: What can doctors expect to learn in your OP Summit lecture?
A: They’re going to learn how to do more with less. I’ll walk through real-world strategies for finishing cases in fewer appointments, reducing emergency visits, and simplifying clinical decision-making. We’ll also discuss how to structure your team, optimize your schedule, and apply principles like Six Sigma and strategic intent to every system in your practice—from scheduling to delegation to patient flow.
I’m going to show you how to reimagine your practice so it’s more profitable, less chaotic, and infinitely more enjoyable.
Q: You emphasize “systems” a lot. Why are they so essential to orthodontic success?
A: Because systems are how you scale without losing your mind. Without them, you're reinventing the wheel every day. With them, your practice becomes predictable, efficient, and consistent—and that consistency builds confidence with patients, staff, and referrals.
When I consult with practices, I often find that the doctor is doing way too much. They’re micromanaging tasks that could be systematized or delegated. That’s not a leadership model—it’s a burnout model. My approach is about creating simplicity that drives results.
Q: What kinds of clinical efficiencies will you cover?
A: Everything from wire sequencing to how we bring in impacted canines with less effort. I’ll also talk about how to structure early treatment to avoid problems down the line, and how we use titanium wire and light forces to reduce appointments and improve finishes.
In my own practice, we track data carefully. Our average is 7.3 appointments per finished case, across all case types. That’s not theory—that’s real. And I’m going to show doctors how we get there.
Q: You’ve also treated thousands of TMJ patients. How does that tie into your system-based approach?
A: TMJ is misunderstood and often mishandled. I’ve treated over 5,000 TMJ patients, and the majority of issues stem from muscular dysfunction, not just joint pathology. Most orthodontists are treating these patients whether they realize it or not—they’re just not diagnosing them correctly.
I’ll share how to spot these cases early, how to simplify treatment planning for them, and how to integrate TMJ into your daily ortho workflow—without adding chaos.
Q: What would you say to an orthodontist who feels stuck or overwhelmed in their current practice model?
A: You’re not alone—and it’s not your fault. Most of what you were taught in residency didn’t prepare you to run an efficient, sustainable business. That’s where I come in. I’ve built and tested systems that work in the real world, not just in theory.
My message is: you can love your practice again—but only if you stop trying to do everything yourself and start trusting proven processes. This isn’t about working harder. It’s about working smarter—and getting your life back.

It’s time to stop running your practice on stress.
